As a leader, you have to have a reflective mindset, to make sure your thinking is not just short-term, but also medium and long-term. DJ Patil's White House card checklist is a great for building fast, iterating, and delivering amazing products.
The card reads:
- Dream in years
- Plan in Months
- Evaluate in weeks
- Ship daily
- Prototype for 1x
- Build for 10x
- Engineer for 100x
- What's required to cut the timeline in ½?
- What needs to be done to double the impact?
This approach is a powerful reminder for all engineering leaders (and leaders in general) to combine strategic long-term thinking with the agility of short-term actions. It encourages us to reflect on our purpose and scale our impact effectively.
As an engineering leader myself, I'm impressed by this checklist's laser focus.
Its targeted approach makes it ideal for self-reflection and finding your true north.
